Out of touch SFA chief Stewart Regan ignored the European successes of Aberdeen and St Johnstone to praise two Englishmen winning medals in the Commonwealth Games triathlon.

Two years on from predicting social unrest as he attempted to shoe-horn Sevco into the top flight, Regan again highlighted his lack of judgement on twitter.

Over 8,000 St Johnstone fans watched their side beat Luzern on penalties to progress to the third qualifying round of the Europa League while Aberdeen pulled off an impressive 2-1 win away to Holland.

The Dutch national side recently pumped Scotland at u-17 and u-21 level but Derek McInnes’ side, bolstered by goals from Irish duo Adam Rooney and Niall McGinn, provided a morale boosting result for the Scottish game.

Those results seemed to cut little ice with Regan who tweeted: “So chuffed for the Yorkshire brothers! Gold and silver medals for and in the triathlon. Nice one lads!”

Under Regan the SFA have lurched from one crisis to another with his ‘leadership’ highlighted by the Sevco saga in the summer of 2012 which led to the secretive Five Way Agreement.

While claiming that he is employed to carry out the instructions of the member clubs Regan attempted to force the SPL to accept Sevco as a member with a place in the First Division of the SFL as an insurance policy.

Both moves were thrown out on the back of supporter protests but despite that failure Regan remains unchallenged at the SFA.

Having gone on record to say that SFA President Campbell Ogilvie was highly compromised in the Rangers crisis Ogilvie retains his key role at the heart of the SFA.

As the secretary/director of Rangers (IL) Ogilvie set up the Discount Option Scheme’s for Tore Andre Flo, Craig Moore and Ronald de Boer.

In 2011 with a £6m tax demand still unpaid for ‘the wee tax case’ the SFA nominated Rangers (IL) to participate in the Champions League qualifying round at the expense of other tax paying clubs in the Scottish game.

Last week the SFA were criticised by the Tartan Army for the cost of a ‘season ticket’ that packages internationals against Germany, England and Ireland with less glamorous fixtures.

With his latest social media own goal the credibility of Regan outside the Hampden boardroom continues to crash through the floor at the same time as Aberdeen and St Johnstone restore some credibility against all odds.

UPDATE

This morning Regan did finally comment on the European success of two clubs that provide him with a six figure salary with benefits and expenses to match, he tweeted: “Magnificent European wins for Aberdeen and St Johnstone last night but nothing beats watching CG with your daughter on her first night in UK.”
