Stevie FrailCeltic’s development side hit the goal trail in East Kilbride this afternoon with a 5-1 win over the local Lowland League side.

Bahrudin Atajic led the line with style scoring with Paul McMullan, Calum Waters and Joe Thomson also on target.

At the final whistle hoops captain Conor McManus picked up the John Hartson Foundation trophy.

Marcus Fraser, Jackson Irvine and Atajic were among the older players in the side as Stevie Frail’s squad gear up for the new season.

The hoops were on the attack from the first whistle, with the home defence almost entirely made up of trialists, with Irvine and Atajic both coming close to scoring.

After 11 minutes Atajic did open the scoring with a composed finish after picking up a pass from the Uruguayan trialist just inside the East Kilbride half.

Colin McCabe was twice called upon to make impressive saves before the hoops doubled their lead in the 22nd minute when McMullan found the top corner of the net from 16 yards out.

Two minutes from half-time there was a goal at each end with Atajic scoring from the penalty spot after McMullan was fouled before a trialist striker for the home side sent a lob over the advancing McCabe from 20 yards out.

Atajic had a couple of shots saved by the keeper early in the second half but a low shot from Calum Waters squirmed under his body on the hour mark to put Celtic 4-1 up.

Thomson replaced Lindsay in the 66th minute and found the net eight minutes later to meet a pass from Aidan Nesbit and drive a powerful shot into the net.

Next Saturday the development squad head north to face Turiff United.
