Aiden McGeadyAiden McGeady and Ki Sung Yueng got their season’s off to the best possible starts yesterday with goals for Swansea and Everton on the opening day of the Premier League.

Ki had the honour of scoring the first Premier League goal of the season as he helped Swansea to the best possible start with a 2-1 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The result was a disaster for new United manager Louis van Gaal with the pre-season fee-good factor dying a death as the realities that sunk Davie Moyes when he inherited Alex Ferguson’s squad came home to roost.

Ki fired home a 20 yard drive just before the half hour mark but despite a Wayne Rooney equaliser the Welsh side took full points when Gylfi Sigurdsson scored 18 minutes from time.

After being sent on loan to Sunderland last season new Swansea boss Gary Monk is keen to get Ki signed up onto a new improved deal.

Ki’s Celtic career briefly overlapped with McGeady who opened the scoring for Everton away to Leicester with an exquisite chip in the 20th minute.

With six Leicester defenders parked in the six yard box McGeady, wearing the number 7 shirt, floated a precise shot into the top corner on the day that Roberto Martinez announced that Ross Barkley could be out injured for five months. Newly promoted Leicester refused to let go, twice battling back to pick up a point.

Elsewhere in the Premier League Paul Lambert and Roy Keane enjoyed an opening day win when Andreas Weimann scored the only goal of the game for Aston Villa away to Stoke City.
