Champions LeagueMaribor boss Ante Simundza has warned his players that they will have to survive a battle to reach the group stage of the Champions League.

Simunundza played in the Maribor side that reached the 1999 group stage of the Champions League and is confident of repeating that achievement as a coach.

Last week’s 1-1 draw has left the Maribor coach unfazed and confident that his side is on the verge of qualifying for the lucrative group stages of the competition.

“At home we achieved a good result,” Simundza said ahead of flying to Glasgow. “Now we have to make our mark in Europe, we have a chance to play in the Champions League and that is everyone’s ambition.

“I’ve dreamed on this since my childhood and hopefully we can achieve it

“This is a massive game for the whole club, with a win we will get stronger and more confident. We are expecting a demanding physical game, Scottish football is similar to the game in England, it is relentless and we have to be prepared to fight, physically it will be demanding.

“With the Champions League at stake we all know the objective.”

Maribor travel with the benefit of a 3-0 home win over Zavrc, tomorrow night’s match will be refereed by Viktor Kassai of Hungary who was at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, he also refereed Celtic’s away matches at Vilareal (2008) and Benfica (2012).
