Karaoke McCoistAlly McCoist has suggested that Sevco’s back-to-back promotions has brought him to the attention of Crystal Palace!

After three years in management with barely even a twitter rumour linking him to another club the former Question of Sport funnyman was suddenly suggested as a candidate for the Palace vacancy on Friday evening.

With the highest paid management team in Scotland and the second biggest player wage bill anything other than successive promotions through part-time divisions would have been incredible.

On the level playing field of cup football McCoist has failed to deliver a single piece of domestic silverware in eight attempts with two European exits in August 2011 accelerating Rangers towards administration and liquidation.

Whether there is something in that cv that appeals to the Crystal Palace board isn’t known but regardless of reality McCoist decided to comment on the ‘links’ after yesterday’s win over Dumbarton took Sevco into joint third place in the Championship.

“It’s obviously the case that even though we have been coming through the lower divisions, maybe people have noticed,” the Govan Guardiola claimed.

“I always knew Rangers was a story, coming through the divisions, and that’s certainly the case. It’s nice, but I think everyone would appreciate I have got an awful lot of work to do at Rangers which I am really looking forward to.

“I’ve got a job to do here. Anyone who knows me will be aware that I am desperately keen to get the job completed as quickly as we possibly can. There are various steps that we have to take – the immediate one being to get out of this division – and this is where I see myself hopefully short-term and longer-term.”

Asked about any contact from Palace he revealed: “There has been no contact at all.”

According to the Oddschecker website, which covers over 20 leading bookmakers, there are no odds available on McCoist getting the Palace job despite Tony Mowbray, Billy Davies, Gary Megson, Paolo di Canio, Teddy Sheringham and Terry Butcher being quoted.

Since starting in management in 2011 McCoist has been unable to sell on any of the players that he has signed.
