Alan Stubbs enjoyed his second league win of the season tonight with Hibs beating Sevco 3-1 tonight at Ibrox.
The former Celtic defender has had a tough task in charge of the Edinburgh side with just six points picked up from their first six matches prompting fears of back-to-back relegation.
Stubbs has stuck to his beliefs of playing a fast passing game and was rewarded with a devastating first half performance that saw the visitors score three times without reply.
A double from Jason Cummings either side of a goal from David Gray triggered a furious reaction from the home fans who booed their favourites off at the interval.
Bilel Mohsni responded by gesturing at loyal fans in the main stand as he raced off at half time but Ally McCoist refused to substitute the charismatic defender who had goaded Hibs before the match.
Asked about Hibs chances of winning the league big mouth Bilel claimed: “No, I don’t think they are title contenders.
“We’re just at the start of the league but it is going to be between us and Hearts who will fight for first place.
“Maybe Queen of the South, Raith Rovers and, of course, Hibs can still do the play-offs. They have a lot to do. It’s surprising, I expected the three teams to fight for the top of the league.”
An honest mistake from Calum Murray threw Sevco a lifeline in the 48th minute when he missed Lee McCulloch dragging the ball out for a corner with his hand. Later on Murray also missed Mohsni and Kris Boyd striking opponents in incidents caught by BT Sport.
Seven minutes later Nicholas Law pulled a goal back but despite having the SPL’s all time leading scorer in Boyd and half a dozen players picking up over £10,000 a week Sevco were unable to salvage a point.
The win lifts Hibs upto fifth place and leaves Sevco six points behind pace-setters Hearts.
