Marcus FraserMarcus Fraser has joined Cowdenbeath on loan.

The defender has completed a move to the Championship side on a 90 day deal which will see him face Hearts and Hibs over the coming weeks.

Fraser looked poised for the big breakthrough at Celtic early in 2013 but suffered a cruciate ligament injury in an SFA Youth Cup tie against Aberdeen that put him out of action for almost a year.

With Eoghan O’Connell making inroads into the first team and Jason Denayer joining on loan from Manchester City the deal to send Fraser on loan suits all parties involved.

The 20-year-old returned to fitness playing against Galatasaray in January and played a leading role as Celtic clinched the u-20 title for the fifth season running.

Fraser goes straight into the Cowdenbeath side to face Hibs on Saturday having played for Scotland on Monday and Celtic on Tuesday!

After captaining Celtic to victory against Dundee at Cappielow on Tuesday night hoops coach Stevie Frail said: “Special mention for Marcus, he landed in Glasgow at 4.30 after being away with the Scotland u-21?s. I asked if he wanted to play and he laughed at me! He told me it was a stupid question and got down to play and captained the team the way he normally does.”

Fraser made his Celtic debut in 2011 as a 17-year-old coming on as a half time substitute against Rennes in the Europa League.

With Cowdenbeath sitting at the bottom of the table Fraser will certainly have his hands full with Dylan McGeouch likely to be in the Hibs side that host Cowdenbeath at Easter Road on Saturday.
