John GuidettiJohn Guidetti has given his backing to the Green Brigade after netting his first Celtic goal.

The on-loan Manchester City striker opened the scoring against Hearts on Wednesday night and shared the moment with the fans in section 111.

During his spell at Feyenoord three seasons ago Guidetti struck up a special relationship with the Dutch fans and spoke earnestly about his passion for the game after his first strike in the hoops.

“It’s for the fans that I do it, they make a world of difference,” the Swede said acknowledging the return of the Green Brigade to Celtic Park. “They were not here the first game, second game they made a massive difference, they were back, straight away I said ‘hey they were not here last game’.

“I love fans personally, since I was small I’ve been like this.To give back to them is great, the way they introduced me here, even when I got brought off on Sunday (against Motherwell) the reception I get was fantastic, it warms my heart, I want to give something back to them.”

Henrik Larsson, or the King of Kings, will always be the benchmark for Celtic strikers with fans still chanting his name to this day.

A decade after his departure no one has come close to matching Larsson’s impact on the club but the newest Swede in the hoops shares the same team ethic as the man signed from Feyernoord for just £650,000.

“This is about Celtic, if we had won 3-0 without me scoring I’d have gone away happy,” Guidetti added. “Of course you want to score goals but at the end of the day it’s about winning trophies for Celtic.

“It’s about Celtic being on top, these are fans that deserve trophies. It sounds a bit of a cliche but it’s true. As long as I go out and the manager sees that I do my job, even as a striker you can have a really really good game without scoring.

“Of course you want to score but for me if I focus too much on scoring you get caught up in that. If you go out to play to win the game, take every single opportunities and make the right choices and that’s a pass you pass the ball. The other players will do the same.”

Guidetti is likely to start tomorrow’s match against St Mirren but isn’t available to play against Dinamo Zagreb due to a registration error by Sandy Bryson of the SFA.
