Fraser Forster had the last laugh yesterday as Newcastle lost 4-0 to Southampton with Toon fans unfurling a Pardew Out banner.

Despite two successful seasons on loan to Celtic Forster remained third choice behind Tim Krull and Steve Harper and made the move to Glasgow permanent with £1.5m fee heading to Tyneside in the summer of 2012.

Two seasons later Forster was keeping a clean sheet as Krull shipped in four goals leaving Southampton sitting in fourth place while Newcastle prop up the Premiership.

After hearing the chants for his dismissal at the end of the match Pardew told Sky Sports: “They’re fair because you can’t get beaten 4-0 as Newcastle manager. I’ve had it a few times and at this club it is tough to take.

“It is not easy to digest and not easy for the players either to play under those circumstances, so we have to be strong and try and tough it out this week and come back next week.

“We just have to put ourselves on the line, really, and be brave. Certainly, today, for us we have a bit more quality than we showed today, for sure, and we need to get that on the pitch.”

Former Sunderland manager Steve Bruce is being tipped to replace Pardew as Newcastle attempt to escape relegation while rival fans prepare to celebrate the 60th anniversary of their last domestic trophy win.

Next Saturday Newcastle host Hull with all eyes on whether Pardew will still be sitting in the home dug-out- with his future dependent on the wishes of Mike Ashley.
