Ronny DeilaStefan Scepovic has tonight signed a four year deal with Celtic.

Last night the deal seemed to be dead with the player pulling out of a £2.5m deal despite undergoing a medical and being given a work permit.

Scepovic was expected to move to Getafe but early this afternoon the deal with Celtic was revived with the Slovenian striker putting pen to paper on the hoops deal in the final hour of the transfer window.

Hoops boss Ronny Deila has been anxious to add a physical striker to his squad and today allowed Teemu Pukki, Amido Balde and Holmbert Fridjonsson to go out on loan.

After yesterday’s 1-1 draw at Dundee Deila said that the Scepovic deal was on-going but later on news from Spain suggested that the player had called the deal off despite undergoing a medical in Madrid on Saturday.

Twenty-four year old Scepovic started his career at Partizan Belgrade- where his dad was a player in the side that beat Celtic after a 6-6 aggregate draw in a memorable Cup Winners Cup tie in 1989.

Last season Scepovic scored 23 goals in 41 games for Sporting Gijon in the Spanish Second Division but was left out of their last two matches as speculation intensified over a transfer to Celtic.

PSV Eindhoven and Werder Bremen were reported to be interested in the striker but that looks like the creation of an imaginative agent.

Scepovic will be on international duty for Serbia this week but will be in Glasgow in time for Celtic’s home match against Aberdeen on September 13 and the opening Europa League tie away to Salzburg four days later.

After bringing in five loan deals during the transfer window Scepovic is Deila’s first permanent deal involving a transfer fee.
