Ronny DeilaCeltic continued their progress towards the Deila dream with a 2-1 win away to St Mirren.

John Guidetti looked capable of playing the sole striker role but there was a glimpse towards an alternative when Anthony Stokes fed the ball to the Swedish striker to score the second and decisive goal.

Guidetti was substituted shortly after that goal, with cramp in his thigh but his replacement Stefan Scepovic failed to make the same impact.

Stokes on the left and SPFL debutant Wakaso Mubarek were the main highlights for Celtic with Deila confident that his striking plans will come good.

“He has qualities, we know it and we’re going to make him better,” Deila said of Scepovic. “You have to understand the game in Scotland. You have to run and fight and I said to him today that’s the first thing you have to start with and he was agreeing.

“I want more out of him. He can start the game on Thursday. He needs time, he’s coming from a different culture and a different way of playing.”

Guidetti will miss Thursday’s Europa League tie with Dinamo Zagreb due to a registration mistake by Sandy Bryson of the SFA but looks to have settled quickly into life at Celtic.

Despite the win Deila wasn’t happy with the way that his side played saying: “I think we looked tired today. We were always one metre behind in the second balls and we didn’t get compact enough.

“On the ball, we were using too many touches and didn’t get up the tempo we wanted. In the end, I’m happy to win but the performance could be better.

“We have played three matches in six days so it’s hard and we haven’t changed much in the team.”
