spflDundee United have announced that they are to hold an investigation into the conduct of two of their players.

No detail is given on the reason for the investigation but almost every club in Scotland has had players rumoured to have been involved in the incident that saw Celtic keeper Lucasz Zaluska assaulted in the early hours of Monday morning.

A brief statement on the club website tonight read: “Dundee United Football Club has commenced an internal investigation into the conduct of two of its players following information received by the Club. The Club will make no further comment at this stage.”

Since news of the Ashton Lane assault was made public on Monday social media has been awash with speculation over who the culprits may be.

Newspaper coverage has been extensive with elements of sarcasm coming in including front page headlines such as ‘peek a bruise’,  ‘the goal keeker’ and ‘Bashed In Lane’ alongside pictures of the Pole in training.

That tone prompted Ronny Deila to speak up for his keeper saying: “I have talked with Lukasz and I’m sorry for him because it could be quite scary. But in my opinion he has done nothing wrong.

“This is a police matter now and we just have to see what’s happening but he is fine now and he is ready for the game tomorrow, that’s the most important thing. He has trained the last two days so that’s very good. He was in the hospital and everything was fine.”

Zaluska is expected to be on the bench for Celtic in their Europa League tie at home to Astra of Romania with Craig Gordon continuing between the sticks.
