Europa LeagueAstra drew 1-1 away to Gaz Metan Medias ahead of their Europa League tie with Celtic on Thursday.

Ciprian Petre opened the scoring for Medias from the penalty spot in the 59th minute but Gabriel Enache equalised 12 minutes later with a penalty for the visitors.

The draw means that Astra arrive in Glasgow without a win in their last five matches- a sequence that cost coach Daniel Isaila his job.

Taking charge of Astra for the first time today was new coach Oleg Protasov, after being appointed he admitted: “Something went wrong, not just the coach  and we will try to change things.

“Astra have a good side and we can achieve good things in the future. Astra’s management have set very high standards, and I have high standards too. Astra can improve and I hope the players understand that.”

After losing the opening two matches of their Europa League campaign Astra need to take at least a point from Celtic on Thursday night if they are to retain an interest in the competition with the two clubs meeting again in Romania on matchday four.

While Celtic face Astra, Red Bull Salzburg host Dinamo Zagreb on the back of four consecutive league wins that have taken them back to top spot in the Austrian league.

Yesterday Salzburg beat Ried 4-2 to take their goal difference to an impressive plus 31 after 12 league matches.

The match in Salzberg should be closely contested with Dinamo Zagreb traveling to Austria on the back of a 3-1 win away to Zadar that keeps them four points ahead of Rijeka at the top of the Croatian league.
