Serial tyre-kicker Paul Murray has vowed to keep Mike Ashley at arms length from the blue room of dignity.
The London based billionaire has called for an EGM to remove Mr Graham Wallace, who used to work for Manchester City, and Mr Philip Nash, who used to work for Arsenal and Liverpool, from he Sevco board.
Ashley’s influence would close the door on Mr Murray regaining a blazer with the Londoner relentless in his goal of driving profit into his Sports Direct empire.
Teaming up with Mr George Letham, Murray last night issued a warning saying: “We want our fellow supporters to be clear on the current position and to correct inaccuracies in certain parts of the media today.
“We confirm we are in discussions with the Board regarding a proposal to provide the club with a funding package to be provided by like minded individuals including Dave King.
“The discussions should remain confidential and we will provide more details in due course.”
Murray has a long history of talking without delivering and served under Dave Murray on the Rangers board before the club was sold to Craig Whyte for £1. Just over a year later the club was liquidated with Murray’s Blue Knights consortium unable to raise the funds for a CVA.
Unlike Murray, Ashley conducts his business in private with no prior hints to the media that he was about to call an EGM.
Having been demonised by Newcastle fans over the last six years a hostile local media is unlikely to have any effect on Ashley’s plans to protect his retail deal at Ibrox.
With a huge advertising budget from Sports Direct at stake newspapers may have to hold back on attacking Ashley as the bean counters realise that with Mr Murray’s track record he is unlikely to become a main player as Sevco bid to avoid liquidation and Armageddon II.
