Ally McCoistFresh from his appeal for Micky Ashley and Dave King to fill his transfer warchest, Ally McCoist turned his thoughts to football mind-games after yesterday’s win over Raith Rovers.

In his trademark style of raising a subject then distancing himself from it the young Mourinho speculated on how Hearts  could cope with a nine point lead in the Championship.

Next Sunday Robbie Nielson’s side have a trip to Easter Road to negotiate with a home fixture against Sevco scheduled for the end of November already causing fear at Ibrox.

After emerging from administration with a CVA rather than liquidation Hearts have enjoyed a storming start to the new season but have still to prove themselves to McCoist.

“It will be interesting to see how Hearts cope with being the team out in front,” the wily old fox suggested. “I don’t get involved in mind games but this is all new for everybody involved.

“With the greatest respect to the Hearts boys, I don’t recall many of them winning anything. Most of our boys have won championships over the past couple of years. A few of them have won Scottish Cups as well but there’s not a lot of players from either side who have been involved in a league campaign that looks like it’ll go all the way.

“It will certainly be interesting to see how people react in different situations. I’m not just putting any question marks over Hearts – I’m questioning my own boys as well.”

On Tuesday night McCoist- who has yet to win a cup in eleven attempts as manager- will take his side to New Bayview for a Petrofek Training quarter final against League Two aces East Fife.
