larsson 2Henrik Larsson has been appointed manager of Helsinbgborgs- just hours after stepping down at Falkenberg.

The move takes the Celtic legend back to his first senior club before he left his homeland to become a hero at Feyenoord, Celtic, Barcelona and Manchester United.

Larsson took over Falkenberg at the start of the season and secured their place in the top flight in their first ever season in the Allsvensken.

This mornings announcement that he had resigned led to speculation that he would be taking over at IFK Gothenburg but in a dramatic move Helsingborgs coach Roar Hansen stepped down as the club brought in the King of Kings to manage the team that his son Jordan plays for.

“I had no hesitation once I was offered the job,” Larsson told a media conference at Helsingborgs today. “I was asked a few days ago and things have moved amazingly fast.

“There’s a lot of work to be done at the club but I know what is needed and I’m looking forward to getting started.”

Helsingborgs finished last season a distant ninth place in the table 23 points behind champions Malmo.

It’s the third managerial job that the former Celt has had having previously been in charge of Landskrona Bois for three seasons.

During the summer he was strongly linked with the vacancy at Celtic created by the departure of Neil Lennon but vowed to stick by his contract at Falkenberg.

With four seasons experience in management Helsinborg are hopeful that their new manager can get them challenging for next season’s title although Malmo will be the team to beat armed with the cash of becoming the first Swedish side in more than a decade to play in the Champions League.

Larsson’s former Celtic team-mate Alan Thompson has been appointed as assistant manager to Lee Clark at Birmingham City.
