LustigMikael Lustig will return to Celtic today to have his hamstring injury examined.

The defender went down injured just before half time in Sweden’s 1-1 draw away to Montenegro and was seen sitting on the turf with his head in his hands before hammering the ground in frustration.

After a double hip operation 11 months ago Lustig has had a troubled time of it with injuries and was out for six weeks with a groin injury picked up in Celtic’s Champions League defeat from Maribor.

Another similar absence would be a big blow to Ronnie Deila’s plans with Lustig’s return to the side coinciding with a five match winning run in domestic matches.

“It was not cramp,” he admitted after the match. “I tried to stretch, but knew immediately that it was something. “I’ll go home and see what it is about, hopefully it’s just a small rupture.”

While Lustig flies into Glasgow John Guidetti will remain with the Swedish squad for Tuesday’s friendly against France in Marseilles.

Sweden will be without yesterday’s goal-scorer against Montenegro with Zlatan Ibrahimovic returning to Paris St Germain.

With the club seasons reaching an interesting stage and the qualification process for the Champions League and Europa League about to be decided the value of international friendlies on the back of Euro 2016 qualifiers seems to be entirely financial.

Later today Stefan Johansen will be in action for Norway away to Azerbijan while Virgil Van Dijk and Jason Denayer will be hoping to be involved as Belgium host Wales and Holland face Latvia.
