HendersonCeltic’s u-17 side continued their defence of the Glasgow Cup with a 2-0 win over Sevco at Murray Park last night.

Goals from Brandon Payne and Regan Hendry in either half were enough to give Celtic victory with the home side rarely putting the hoops under any real pressure.

The results in the group stage are largely academic this year with semi-final’s being introduced to the competition meaning that only one of the five clubs will fail to progress to the knock out phase.

Providing ten competitive matches however is the main focus of the competition although some matches can be of the one sided variety with Celtic beating Queens Park 7-o last month.

With no competitive league structure in place the Glasgow Cup is able to go some way towards bridging the gap between under-age football and the SPFL Development League with Hendry, Mark Hill and Calvin Miller all featuring at some stage this season in the Development League.

Celtic’s next fixture in the Glasgow Cup is at home to Clyde on December 8- two days after the SFA Youth Cup tie at Tannadice against Dundee United.

Last season’s Glasgow Cup Final match-winner, Aiden Nesbitt, was on the bench for the Premier League International Cup tie with Everton after being out injured since August.

Celtic:- Ross Doohan; Tony Ralston, Josh Kerr, Daniel Higgins, Daniel Church; Ciaran McKenna; Regan Hendry, Brandon Payne, Mark Hill, Calvin Miller; Theo Archibald (Aidan Quinn 81mins).

Not Used:- Joshua Rae (Gk), Lewis Bell, Innes Murray, Scott Hay, Rory Currie
