Scepovic offsideRonny Deila refused to concentrate on honest mistakes after Celtic’s 2-1 defeat at Dundee United today.

Trailing 2-0 in the 80th minute Stefan Scepovic timed his run perfectly to meet the ball cushioned off the chest of Emilio Izaguirre and tuck a shot low past Radoslaw Cierzniak in the United goal.

Unfortunately for Celtic the assistant linesman raised his flag despite Scepovic running from behind Izaguirre, and a United defender, and with the penalty spot providing further help.

Leigh Griffiths went on to pull a goal back in the 86th minute but the entire complexion of the game would have been different if Scepovic’s goal had been allowed to stand.

“It’s disappointing if we didn’t get that goal,” Deila said about the offside incident. “I think that we’d have had a good chance of getting some points but we put ourselves down and struggled to get back.”

Celtic’s sloppy defending contributed to United’s two goals with Efe Ambrose at fault for Nadir Ciftci’s opener with Stuart Armstrong presented with an open goal to head the second.

Once again Celtic created plenty of chances with Deila unhappy with his side’s finishing in front of goal.

“We haven’t been effective enough in the last three or four games,” the Celtic boss stated. “We have created so many chances, if you keep on missing them you will lose points and that happened.

“We had energy in our play, we had a lot of chances in the first half and should have been leading. I think that we played quite well, especially in the first half, we just need to put the ball in the net but that’s the most important thing in football.”
