ForrestJames Forrest hasn’t suffered a recurrence of the muscle injuries that have dogged him over the last three years.

Callum McGregor replaced the 23-year-old at half-time during Celtic’s 4-1 win over St Mirren with Forrest scoring his first goal of the season and looking close to his best form.

Hamstring and groin strains have hampered him over the last few seasons with Deila using the winger sparingly in recent weeks as he attempts to nurse him back to full power.

Some fans feared the worst when Forrest failed to appear for the second half but after the match Deila revealed that it was a migraine that forced the substitution.

With no midweek game for the first time this season Deila will have a full week to prepare for the visit to Dundee United at Tannadice.

John Guidetti was substituted early in the second half after taking a kick on the ankle with the extent of the injury still to be determined.

“They have checked him and said they think it’s just a kick but you never know so we will have to see,” Deila explained. “It was a tackle and if it was a twist or a hard tackle, I don’t know.”

The four goals that Celtic scored were an improvement on the single goal at Motherwell last week but Deila insists that his side should have scored more.

“We are creating chances and that is positive,” the Celtic manager added. “Also some of the attacks are the way I want to attack, with opposite movements and three players involved.

“There were some good attacks and we are playing more forward now as well. There is also a quick reaction to winning the ball back.
