Owen CoyleOwen Coyle is back in football as manager of Houston Dynamo.

The 48-year-old was linked with the Celtic job in 2009 but elected to stay at Burnley as the prepared for life in the Barclayspremierleague.

Coyle has been out of football since being sacked by Wigan a year ago and was delighted to sign up for the MLS outfit.

“It’s going to be one of the biggest leagues in world football and anybody in the game wants to be involved at a high level,” he said.

“MLS certainly is and I think it’ll continue to progress. For me it was a fantastic challenge. I’ve watched MLS extensively, back home we get live feeds and highlights so I certainly know all the teams in the league.”

Coyle was one of the highest rated bosses in football after steering Burnley to promotion then switching in mid season to Bolton and keeping them in the Premier League.

Relegation for Bolton in 2012 was followed by Coyle’s departure in the October of that year with his next job coming at Wigan, replacing Roberto Martinez after the club had been relegated to The Championship.

Almost exactly a year ago Coyle was sacked by Wigan, he had been linked with the Motherwell vacancy but will now pick up his career in the MLS.

Coyle added: Within the last six months I had six or seven good offers to come back in, both home and abroad, and I just didn’t feel it was the right thing or the right connection. What I wanted to do was wait for the connection I got with somebody.

When I sat with Chris Canetti (CE of Houston Dynamo) I just knew straight away. It was a similar feeling to the one I got when I sat with co-owner Brendan Flood at Burnley. That feeling that they’re not only knowledgable people but really good ones, which is so important.”
