Wakaso MubarekCeltic’s development squad continued their impressive recent form by beating Dundee United 2-0 tonight at Cappielow.

Stefan Scepovic and Wakaso Munarek were included in the starting XI but the Ghanian lasted less than 15 minutes after taking a heavy head knock while Scepovic’s battle with the offside law continued.

With wins against Sevco, Dundee United (in the SFA Youth Cup) and Sunderland in the bank Celtic set about the match with confidence displaying the high tempo game demanded by the watching Ronny Deila.

Two goals, from Paul McMullan and Aidan Nesbitt, was scant reward for the first 45 minutes but the passion and pace that the team showed more than made up for any disappointment with the half time scoreline

Mubarek’s night lasted 14 minutes with the Ghanian leaving the field looking dazed after a head knock while heading a Paul McMullan cross goalwards.

Joe Thomson replaced Wakaso and within a minute Celtic had taken the lead with McMullan nodding home a corner from Henderson at the far post.

After going in front Celtic pounded forward at every opportunity with slick passing taking advantage of McMullan and Nesbitt on the flanks.

United barely had the chance to draw breath as Celtic poured forward at every opportunity in the style of play favoured by Deila with the three man midfield of Thomson, Henderson and Jamie Lindsay the heartbeat of the side.

McMullan and Nesbitt both had attempts on goal before Nesbitt doubled Celtic’s lead in the 37th minute, drifting in from the left flank then curling a low left foot shot beyond Lius Zwick off his left hand post.

The flag waving curse that denied Scepovic a goal at Tannadice returned in the 44th minute when he timed his run perfectly to meet an Eoghan O’Connell 40 yard pass but after clipping the ball around Zwick the goal was disallowed for offside.

Celtic probably deserved more than a two goal lead at the break but after the break they found United much more resilient without posing any real threat to the Celtic defence

Nesbitt and Kieran Tierney on the left were carrying the main threat to the United defence with Henderson constantly happy to support both players and take a pot at goal given half a chance.

There was no further goals in the second half but as they pause for a brief Christmas break the video analysis of the last four matches will make for pleasing viewing.
