Darren O'DeaDarren O’Dea has signed a new deal to stay at Blackpool for the remainder of the season.

The former Celtic defender signed a month long deal at the start of December with the Seasiders and has did enough to earn an extended deal.

“I’m delighted to sign until the end of the season,” O’Dea said. “I’ve enjoyed my time so far and I’m now looking forward to a massive challenge ahead.”

Blackpool are sitting in bottom place in the Championship- six points below Wigan and nine away from safety.

After signing his new deal O’Dea will be looking forward to Saturday’s match at home to Millwall where he is likely to be up against Scott McDonald in what is clearly a six pointer. Millwall have dropped to third bottom with 23 points from 24 matches- nine ahead of Blackpool.

As well as McDonald O’Dea will find plenty of familiar faces in the Championship with Daryl Murphy the division’s leading scorer with Ipswich, Shaun Maloney at Wigan, for now, and Tony Watt signing for Charlton.

While he settles in at Blackpool one of his former team-mates, Mikey Miller, has joined Queen of the South.

Miller played right-midfield in Celtic’s 2006 double winning youth side in front of Paul Caddis with O’Dea paired in central defence alongside Scott Cuthbert.

Before joining Queen’s Miller had been with Jim McInally at Peterhead after failing to make the breakthrough at Dundee United despite impressing with Falkirk.

Queen’s are currently sitting in fourth place in the league, six points behind crisis club Sevco and three ahead of fifth placed Falkirk.
