marcus fraser ytMarcus Fraser is set to join Ross County and could make his debut against Celtic on Saturday.

The defender seemed set for a great career at Celtic but was cut down in his prime when he picked up a cruciate ligament injury playing against Aberdeen in the SFA Youth Cup in February 2013.

Two weeks earlier he had made his first SPL start in the 3-1 win at Inverness Caley Thistle in an experimental Celtic side that scored through Rami Gershon, Miku and Kris Commons.

Celtic were leading 2-0 against Aberdeen when a crack echoed around Firhill with the seriousness of the injury obvious to everyone in the ground.

Fourteen months earlier Fraser was a half-time substitute in the 3-1 Europa League win over Lyon and gave a mature performance that marked him down for greater things.

That injury at Firhill put his career on hold with the comeback coming a year ago against Galatasaray during Celtic’s winter break in Turkey.

Fraser had came through the ranks with a promising group that included from an early age Joe Chalmers, Mikey Miller and John Herron with Paul George joining up at the age of 15.

Sadly serious injury effected the progress off all of those players with the highlight of their hoops career coming during the 2011/12 season as they romped to the u-19 double and starred in the Next Gen Series with two memorable wins over Manchester City.

Fraser’s return from injury helped the Development side to win last season’s title on the final day with his last appearance in the hoops coming in September of this year in a 2-0 win over Dundee.

After the game, and with a loan move to Cowdenbeath arranged Stevie Frail said: “Special mention for Marcus, he landed in Glasgow at 4.30 after being away with the Scotland u-21’s. I asked if he wanted to play and he laughed at me! He told me it was a stupid question and got down to play and captained the team the way he normally does.”

Fraser made nine appearances for Cowdenbeath and will join Jackson Irvine at Ross County until the end of the season.
