WattA week after joining Charlton Tony Watt again finds himself without a manager.

Watt found himself in a similar situation at Standard Liege earlier this season with Bob Peeters becoming the latest Championship manager to be sacked following back to back defeats from Blackburn and Brighton.

A statement from the London club tonight read: “Charlton have terminated the contract of Head Coach Bob Peeters with immediate effect, the club can confirm.

“The contracts of Senior Professional Development Coach Patrick Van Houdt and Performance Analyst Guy Kiala have also been terminated.

“Peeters signed a 12-month contract at The Valley in the summer and enjoyed a good start to life in the Championship.

“However, given the recent downturn in results and performances the board felt they had to make a change at this time.

“The club would like to thank the trio for their efforts and a further statement will be made in due course.”

Speaking today about the twists in his career Watt said: “I thought going to Liege would be great for me but it didn’t quite work out as well as I’d hoped.

“The coach was sacked after five weeks and I felt as if I was stranded there. I didn’t start a game after that for two months. So I didn’t really get a chance to prove myself.

“Luzon had been willing to give me time to settle but I think I only started two games in total for the new man.

“It just wasn’t the right place for me and I figured that out pretty quickly but going to Belgium helped me as a player. At Lierse, I started nine games and scored eight.

“When I’ve had a good crack at it, I’ve done well. Too many times at Celtic, I’d be out for two or three months then I’d get thrown in and they’d expect me to be sharp.

“I’m not blaming anyone for that but it was difficult for me. I’ve only been at Charlton for 10 days but I’ve shown the gaffer some of what I can do. I feel more at home here.”

Watt made his debut yesterday as a 50th minute substitute in the 1-0 home defeat from Brighton.

UPDATE: Guy Luxon, who signed Watt for Standard Liege, is the early favourite with the bookies to take over at Charlton.
