Ronny DeilaRonny Deila has voiced his concerns about the condition of the pitch at Hampden.

Queens Park only returned to the national stadium at the start of the month with a new pitch laid following the Commonwealth Games.

Laying a pitch in winter is never easy with Aberdeen and Dundee United playing on the same pitch 24 hours before Celtic face Sevco.

The Hampden groundstaff are likely to be working through the night to prepare the pitch for Sunday’s match but after taking a look at the ground yesterday the hoops boss choose his words carefully.

Deila said: “I haven’t been on it so it’s hard to say, I’ve heard that it’s not in the best shape and that’s not good. We want perfect conditions when we are having big games.

“It’ll be the same for both teams so we’ve got to prepare for that. You always have to look at the condition of the pitch but we have to be ourselves, that’s the most important thing.”

With his first semi-final coming up Deila will lean heavily on the local know how of his coaching team of John Collins and John Kennedy.

Collins won the League Cup during his brief spell in charge of Hibs with the Celtic manager getting the inside track on what to expect on Sunday.

“I am so happy to have staff who know Scottish football,” Deila added. “That not only helps me in this situation, but through the whole season.

“I didn’t know much about the other teams and the players and culture and other things. It’s much easier to get it when you have other people next to you.”

“We are a team, the staff and me and the players. I have spoken to them a lot, not only this week but all the time. Good communication is important. I have John Collins and John Kennedy around me, who have played in these games before.”
