LustigHis first goal had a hint of sclaff but the second was all about class.

When Mikael Lustig headed home a Leigh Griffiths cross to put Celtic 4-0 up against Motherwell the quality of the goal wasn’t immediately obvious.

Looking at the goal in more depth however revealed a different picture with the Swede running from penalty box to penalty box to score despite the points already being secure.

After more than two months out of action through injury Lustig could have been forgiven for easing himself back into the fray, enjoying a 45 minute run out against Motherwell but mindful of the cup ties coming up throughout February.

Rather than take that approach he wanted to make the most of every minute with the run for Celtic’s goal saying everything about his professionalism.

With Kris Commons controlling a cross-field pass midway inside his own half Lustig decided to go for it, racing past the midfielder to pick up his pass just inside the Motherwell half.

After touching the ball inside to Scott Brown he continued his run towards the penalty box and was perfectly positioned to dive full length to head Leigh Griffith’s cross into the net!

Having been criticised for taking a break in Gran Canaria while Aberdeen stretched their lead at the top of the table Ronny Deila was entitled to be satisfied with the back-to-back wins over Hamilton and Motherwell with his side starting to show some style about their performances.

“We want to be number one and now everything is in our hands,” the Celtic boss said. “If we win every game we are champions.

“That’s the best position we can have. There are a lot of games to come, so we just have to keep on performing like today.

“In Scotland, Celtic can win every game. We are favourites whoever me meet, wherever we meet.”
