Mike AshleyCrisis club Sevco have been rocked by the resignation of manager Kenny McDowall- who will join Ally McCoist on gardening leave.

Three games after taking over from McCoist ,McDowall has walked away citing personal reasons for the decision.

A brief statement was issued on the club website tonight with no mention of who will take over first team duties.

McCoist’s decision to walk away thrust McDowall reluctantly into the spotlight with his first match ending in a 4-0 humiliation against Hibs followed by narrow wins over Dumbarton and Alloa.

Friday’s abandoned match at home to Hearts proved to be his final game in charge of the club leaving Gordon Durie and Lee McCulloch to prepare for Saturday’s match at Cowdeneath.

“It’s tainted, isn’t it?,” said McDowall, of the circumstances surrounding his appointment. “What can you do? I have got to try to make the best of a bad situation that has happened. Ally would wish for nothing more than the team to get on a winning run again and try to win that title. The biggest tribute we can do is to try to pull that off. It would be for Ally McCoist.

“On Sunday evening, I got a call from Derek Llambias asking me to come in to Ibrox. He asked me if I could come over immediately, which I duly did. I made that drive in. When I got there he informed me that Ally had been put on gardening leave and he asked me to take charge of the team.”

As he starts his spell of 12 months notice McDowall’s only worry will be if the League One champions plunge into administration.
