spflDerek McInnes has said that Aberdeen’s draw at St Johnstone was no disaster.

A win would have lifted Aberdeen two points ahead of Celtic but for the second game running the Dons were only able to come up with a point.

St Johnstone had the edge throughout the game but a spectacular long range shot from Adam Rooney cancelled out Simon Lappin’s opener to deny the home side full points.

“It is not a disaster coming away from here with a point,” McInnes said. “St Johnstone are a good side and I think they showed that at times. From our point of view we came here to win. I don’t think the performance from us was good enough to do that, but 26 points out of 30 is still a good run.

“There is a lot more expected of us now and in years gone by a draw at McDiarmid Park would go without notice but people are expecting more of us.

“We want to try and make sure we do all we can to win games and I don’t think the way we started gave ourselves that chance.

“St Johnstone are always tough opponents. They were certainly up for the game and I thought overall a draw was probably the right result.”

After forecasts of doom and despair caused by a week long break in Gran Canaria Celtic can go three points clear at the top of the table with a game less played if they win at Ross County this afternoon.

With three wins without conceding a goal since the turn of the year the hoops are in strong form with the match in Dingwall their last SPFL match until February 14 away to St Johnstone.

Celtic meet Aberdeen at home on March 1.
