SFASevco keeper Steve Simonsen has been charged by the SFA with betting on 55 football matches.

The veteran keeper has been first choice since Cameron Bell dislocated his shoulder and was between the sticks as Sevco crashed to humiliating defeats to Hearts, Hibs, Queen of the South and Alloa Athletic.

Simonsen arrived at Ibrox in the summer of 2013 following a spell at Dundee and is best remembered for his comical display in last season’s Scottish Cup semi-final defeat from Dundee United.

A statement on the SFA website read: “The Compliance Officer has issued the following Notice of Complaint:

Alleged Party in Breach:Steve Simonsen (Rangers FC)
Disciplinary Rule(s) allegedly breached:

1) Disciplinary Rule 33 (Season 2013/14): In that between 15th January 2014 and 22nd June 2014, both dates inclusive, you bet upon 18 football matches.

2) Disciplinary Rule 31 (Season 2014/15): In that between 6th September 2014 and 13th January 2015, both dates inclusive, you bet upon 37 matches.

Principal Hearing Date: Thursday, 12th February 2015

Mr Simonsen has until Thursday, 29th January 2015 to respond to the complaint.

Disciplinary Rule 33 (from season 2013/14): No club, official, Team Official or  other member of Team Staff, player, match official or other person under the jurisdiction of the Scottish FA shall bet in any way on a football match (except authorised and registered football pools).

Disciplinary Rule 31 (2014/15):
No club, official, Team Official or other member of Team Staff, player, match official or other person under the jurisdiction of the Scottish FA shall gamble in any way on a football match. Any such club or person to have engaged in gambling of any description on football shall be in breach of this rule.

The SFA noted that none of the charges related to matches involving Simo or Sevco.

Last season Ian Black was given a three match ban for betting on 160 matches including one involving Sevco.

Following that Ally McCoist brandished sheets of paper at a media conference claiming that it was full of players and officials that he knew had gambled on football matches- the SFA never asked McCoist for any details on his claim.
