McGeouchLoan bhoys Dylan McGeouch and Paul McMullan were on target yesterday as Hibs won 2-0 at Queen of the South and Stenhousemuir drew 1-1 with Ayr United.

Hibs looked on course for another afternoon of frustration until McGeouch tucked away a penalty in the 63rd minute with Scott Robinson securing full points 12 minutes later.

The win lifts Alan Stubbs side to within two points of second placed Sevco with next Saturday’s home match against Raith Rovers giving the Edinburgh side the chance to leapfrog Kenny McDowall’s side.

McGeouch is out of contract at the end of the season with Stubbs hopeful that the midfielder would see his future in Leith.

“It’s still early days with Dylan, he’s contracted to Celtic, so we have to be very respectful of that,” Stubbs said about McGeouch’s future. “I’m interested in all good players and Dylan certainly comes into that category. He’s been great for us, so we’ll just have to see how that situation progresses.”

Alan Forrest, brother of James, equalised before half time but the draw keeps Stenny two points ahead of Ayr who are sitting in the play-off place.

In the Championship Stuart Findlay had an afternoon to forget as Dumbarton lost 5-1 at home to Livingston while John Herron’s debut for Cowdenbeath was put on hold by a frozen pitch at Central Park.

Jackson Irvine was left out of the Ross County side that played Celtic as part of his loan agreement with former Celt Marcus Fraser making his debut in the 1-0 defeat.
