Beram KayalNeil Lennon won’t need to do too much scouting on one of Bolton’s opponents this afternoon.

Brighton are Bolton’s guests with Seagull’s midfielder Beram Kayal one of the key men in the early years of Lennon’s reign at Celtic.

Kayal was among the first batch of signings that Lennon made alongside Joe Ledley, Gary Hooper and Emilio Izaguirre with the money raised from selling Aiden McGeady.

During the 2010/11 season it seemed that Celtic would have a job holding onto the Israeli international with his domineering midfield displays attracting the attention of Premiership clubs.

The arrival and emergence of Victor Wanyama coupled with a run of injuries saw Kayal drift out the picture at Celtic with his £300,000 transfer to Brighton last month barely commented on.

Bolton need to get back to winning ways to avoid being drawn back towards the relegation battle with Lennon well aware of the ability of one Brighton player.

“He’s a very good player,” the Bolton boss said of Kayal. “When he first broke into the Celtic team he was sensational but he had a couple of horrendous injuries which curtailed him a bit. He’s a good player and a fantastic lad, so he’ll do very well for them.

“He reads the game well. When he first came in he was a ferocious tackler and he’s great at getting the ball back and driving the game.

“I think the injuries hampered his progress but if he gets going again he’ll be a very good signing. His attitude towards the game is fantastic.”

Bolton go into this afternoon’s match having lost five of their last six matches with just a home win over Fulham to break the sequence.
