Paul GeorgeThe trials and tribulations of life after Celtic continued for Paul George and Lewis Toshney as they faced upto each other in the colours of Cowdenbeath and Dunfermline this afternoon.

During the week George had turned out for Motherwell’s Development Team against Hibs and was happy to play for Dunfermline today in a bid to earn a new contract.

Toshney spent the first part of the season at Ross County but after being released has signed for Cowdenbeath till the end of the season where former Celtic team-mates John Herron and Robbie Thomson are already on the books.

Dunfermline won the match 3-1 with Pars boss John Potter, also a former Celtic youth team player, hoping that a deal can be worked out to keep George at East End Park.

“I have been speaking to him over the last few weeks about coming in,” Potter told the Dunfermline website. “He had other options, he has been at other clubs looking about and he came and trained with us yesterday and then played for us today.

“He did very well, he is an out and out winger and he looked dangerous at times. He has probably not played and trained as much as the rest of us but he was a threat at times and I thought that he did very well. It is something we are going to look at in the future and see if we can do something about it.

“He probably won Celtic the Youth Cup final when we were there a couple of years ago. In other games against us he has been very good. He has not played massive amounts of first team football but when he was breaking through at Celtic he got a bad leg break that kept him out a while.

“Even in training yesterday he showed a good appetite for the game. He worked hard and he wants to come and do well. He is the one who has been pushing and wanting to come in and as soon as I asked if he wanted to come in and have a day or two training, straight away he said ‘yes’.”

Down south Filip Twardzik scored six minutes after coming onto the park in Bolton’s 4-1 defeat at Derby while Tony Watt was in the Charlton side that lost 3-1 at Middlesboro.
