spflStefan Scepovic and Paul McMullan were on target as Celtic’s development side beat Partick Thistle 2-0 at Airdrie’s Excelsior Stadium.

There was also 90 minutes for Michael Duffy who joined Celtic during the January transfer window from Derry City.

Scepovic led the line in the first half with Duffy, Joe Thomson and McMullan pushing up in support with McMullan switching positions after the break.

Stuart Findlay and McMullan took advantage of their development loans to pull on the hoops while on weekend duty with Dumbarton and Stenhousemuir.

Scepovic caused some early troubles in the Thistle defence but as the half settled it was the Jags who enjoyed the majority of possession even though Leo Fasan was barely tested.

Both sides were pinging the ball about the middle of the park but both defences were on top with little in the way of clear cut chances at either end.

It was hard to tell whether the surface was a factor in the untidiness of the first half with players finding their first touch racing away and weighted passes a complete no-no.

Duffy proved to be the creator of one of the few first half chances with a diagonal ball behind the Thistle defence but Joe Thomson’s shot across goal from a tight angle went wide of the post in the 40th minute.

Just before the interval Duffy had a shot deflected with for a corner as Celtic finished the half looking the more likely side to score.

Celtic continued on the front foot after the break and took the lead in the 47th minute. A driving run down the left from Jamie Lindsay ended with his shot being parried by the Thistle keeper with McMullan reacting quickest to steer the rebound into the net.

Scepovic and McMullan had swapped positions for the second half with Duffy pushed slightly further forward on the left.

With 13 minutes left to play McMullan was fouled in the penalty box and after a brief ‘consultation’ handed the ball to Scepovic who scored confidently from 12 yards out.
