Paddy McCourtPaddy McCourt didn’t waste any time making an impact at Notts County.

Despite losing 1-0 to Port Vale the home fans left in awe at the performance of the mercurial talent from Derry.

First impressions last with McCourt’s unique style as eye-catching as ever as supporters at Meadow Lane got their first sighting of the man charged with keeping their club away from the relegation zone.

He is a very good player and, at times, I thought he was on a different page to the rest,” County manager Shaun Derr said. “The longer he is here with us, the longer we get to know him, we can get to understand him better too. He is great on the eye but he also has that final killer ball.

“I thought he was outstanding in the first half and he showed glimpses of it again in the second half but as soon as he came into the building I knew I had more than just a decent player on my hands.

“He makes things happen. He lifts people off their feet and I felt that, given his performance, he didn’t deserve to be on the losing side.”

County are three points above the drop zone and face a vital match away to third bottom Colchester United tonight.

After signing on a 28 day loan from Brighton McCourt revealed: “I was here on trial as a young lad a long, long, time ago so it’s going to be interesting to make my debut 15 years later.

It was a couple of months before I ended up signing for Rochdale after a scout back home recommended myself and keeper Saul Deeney.

“They kept Saul on but they let me go in the end despite being quite close to signing me. Let’s just hope I can show them they made a mistake 15 years ago! I’ve never been back to Notts County since and in all my career I’ve not actually played at Meadow Lane either.”
