Paddy McCourtPADDY McCourt has scored many memorable goals in his career but not many with his head.

The former Celtic favourite has scored plenty of dazzling solo goals but a nod of the head last week against Colchester could prove invaluable in Notts County’s bid to avoid relegation.

McCourt has made a big impact on County fans since his loan move from Brighton with the victory at Colchester only the second win in 11 for Shaun Derry’s side.

County are just four points above the relegation zone with Derry hopeful that McCourt can help steer the side to safety.

“It was imperative that we brought in three experienced boys, so when Jamal (Campbell-Ryce), Paddy and Leroy (Lita) all became available, I felt it was the right time for us,” he said.

“They are names of course, but if you ask any manager you have to spend time on the training field for it to click.

“And that’s why we are very conscious of that. In the short time we have from now until the end of the season a lot of the work we will carry out will be in an attacking sense.”

Yesterday County drew 1-1 at home with Bradford with Mike Edwards on target.

In the same division Tony Mowbray celebrated his first win in charge of Coventry with a 3-2 victory away at Chesterfield.

After the match the former Celtic boss said: “The pleasing thing for me is that a very young defence withstood most of it, and a young goalkeeper made one or two good saves as well.

“It’s good that we’re scoring goals now, which gives you a chance to win football matches. In our predicament, any win is important. If they keep showing the same determination then we should be OK, but we know it’s still a long way to go.”
