Tony Watt will get the chance to build on his weekend double against Huddersfield when Charlton host in form Nottingham Forest tomorrow night.
After drifting towards the relegation zone three wins in their last four matches have sent Charlton back into the safety of mid-table but a play-off spot looks beyond Guy Luxon’s side.
Following a brief spell with Standard Liege Watt is enjoying his football in London and looking to repay the manager who took him to Belgium before being reunited at The Valley.
“He backed me at Standard, I don’t think the club really wanted to sign me,” Watt said about Luxon. “He had reports I had a bad attitude, but he said ‘look, be honest with me and if you tell me you won’t cause me problems I’ll sign you on the spot’. I was honest, I told him everything.
“He signed me, always pulled me in his office, worked hard with me and told me where to improve. He’s given me confidence.
“He’s come in here and it’s been difficult for him. Bob Peeters signed me and Guy took me on. I’ve had two good managers in a month. Hopefully, we can kick on now.”
Forest are unbeaten in seven matches since Dougie Freedman replaced Stuart Pearce with the former Bolton and Crystal Palace boss looking to continue that run tomorrow night.
“If we can approach the game in the same way as we did in the second half against Reading it’s a winnable game for us,” Freedman said.
“It’s going to be tough but I look at our team right now, with the confidence we’re playing with and the fantastic travelling support, and if we choose the right attitude I can see us winning. I feel we can take the game to them.
“The team’s got a good structure about it, a good organisation, and that’s given them the confidence to express themselves going forward.”
