Campbell OgilvieSFA President Campbell Ogilvie has failed in his bid to be elected onto the UEFA Executive Committee.

Of the twelve candidates put forward for the seven places only Trefor Lloyd of Wales polled less votes than Mr Ogilvie.

Six candidates were elected automatically, ranging from Sandor Csanyi of Hungary to Grigoriy Surkis of Ukraine.

A second ballot was held between the six remaining candidates but Ogilvie against finished second bottom in the ballot with Borislav Mihaylov coming out on top to earn a four year stint on the Executive Committee.

After announcing that he would stand for election Stewart Regan backed the decision saying: “After the best part of 40 years in football we feel Campbell’s involvement in Europe and areas such as the Champions League, and his understanding of the game, will add great value at European level.”

It seems that the UEFA delegates took a different view.

The main business of the UEFA Congress was to vote for a President with Michel Platini elected for a third four year term.

“This means more to me than you can possibly imagine,” the former Juventus midfielder said. “I know I can count on you, and you know that you can count on me.

“This allows me to continue for another four years. I do want to say that we love FIFA deeply, and it’s precisely because we love and respect FIFA that we want it to be perfect.

“We are only demanding about the people and institutions we care about.”

Looking towards the upcoming FIFA elections he added: “We want a FIFA that is respectable and respected.

“Certain people are trying to turn us against each other and isolate us and call us arrogant and selfish Europeans – but don’t believe everything you hear.

“We know we are in a privileged position and we will work for the good of the 209 national associations and the good of FIFA as well.

“Whatever the results of May 29, that’s why we are going to continue to work together.”
