Lewis Kidd 2Stuart McCall’s Champions League bandwagon came to a halt in Dumfries last night as Sevco crashed 3-0 to play-off hopefull’s Queen of the South.

Despite the euphoria of a five match unbeaten run under the former Bradford City supremo Sevco were no match for James Fowler’s side with Lewis Kidd the outstanding performer.

The 20-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan to Queen’s and made the move permanent in the summer after three seasons in the Celtic development side.

Kidd was a regular Scotland youth cap as a midfielder before being converted to a right-back last season. Last night playing as right wing-back he destroyed Sevco with the highly rated Lee Wallace left in pieces by the end of the night.

Just past the half hour mark Kidd brushed aside a half hearted challenge from Waldo to set up Derek Lyle who smashed a low shot past Lee Robinson to open the scoring.

Fifteen seconds into the second half McCall’s half time team talk was forgotten as Kidd sent a weak shot come cross cross into the six yard box with the bamboozled Waldo managing to turn the ball into his own net!

With their close passing game and pacy attack the home side always looked the most likely to score with Gavin Reilly netting in the 69th minute to seal an impressive victory for the homeside.

Afterwards Fowler said: “We were backs to the wall a wee bit in the first half. But we managed to cope with that. We got the goal and then getting another one so early in the second half gave us a cushion.

“All the players were excellent. The boys on the bench were itching to get on but I have told them that we will need them all.

“This was a great night but we have massive games all the way now to the end of the season. We want to finish in that top four.”

The win takes Queens’s a point above Falkirk into fourth place with the two side’s meeting at Palmerston on Sunday.

During the second half the match was halted after a mobile phone was thrown onto the pitch from the away support who had earlier let off a smoke bomb.
