Beram KayalBeram Kayal was so pleased to pick up the wearebrighton.com Player of the Month award for March that he re-tweeted it to 62,000 followers.

The midfielder has made a big impact on the south coast club helping to steer Chris Hughton’s side clear of the relegation dogfight.

Kayal’s January transfer barely made any headlines but after two solid months of regular football he seems to have recaptured some of his old form.

Announcing the award wearebrighton stated: “A well deserved recall to the Israeli national side was Beram Kayal’s reward for his performances in a March in which the Albion put some daylight between themselves and the relegation zone.

Used primarily as a defensive midfielder, his screening role in front of the back four was pivotal in helping to keep clean sheets in three games, earning seven points along the way. He did a superb job in the backs to the wall performance at Derby and even looked a threat going forward at Blackburn in another vital victory.

It would be intriguing to see him in a more advanced position given his obvious talent.”

Kayal’s Brighton form earned him a recall into the Israel international squad where he recently picked up his 25th international cap.

A move to Brighton would have been the last thought on his mind after the blistering start that he made to his Celtic career.

Alongside Joe Ledley, Gary Hooper and Emilio Izaguirre he certainly hit the ground running as Neil Lennon’s side lost the title by a point to Walter Smith’s EBT funded squad.

Injuries and the arrival of Voctor Wanyama put Kayal in the shade with the change of management to Ronny Deila failing to bring a revival in his form.

Whether his performances at Brighton will earn him a chance in the Premiership remains to be seen but his place in the Celtic story under Lennon is assured.
