Trailing 1-0 to a deflected strike from Darryl Westlake, for eight minutes there was a little sense of panic in the stadium, a reminder of Celtic’s five point lead mixed with thoughts of the points dropped at Inverness and Aberdeen winning at Kilmarnock thanks to a late penalty save.

Surely we weren’t watching an epic collapse, was the league challenge about to get too close for comfort with momentum swinging to Aberdeen who could cut the gap to two points before Celtic visit Dens Park on Wednesday?

Fortunately those thoughts lasted only eight minutes with Scott Brown playing a captain’s past in the comeback.

Claiming a headed clearance at the edge of the box Brown’s first touch took him into the penalty box with the ball quickly flying into the top corner of the net.

It was an incredible strike with something just slightly strange. “Goal Celtic, and the captain Scott Brown,” boomed the PA announcer with almost all fans thinking ‘typical captain’s role, dragging us back into a match that was slipping away.’

Every news site and across social media the goal was given to Brown but on closer inspection a different story emerged. On their youtube channel the SPFL have a clip titled ‘Scott Brown scores to corner stunner for Celtic’.

While Brown’s momentum carried him goalwards to pick the ball out of the net the real goal scorer headed back towards the centre circle ready for more- Kris Commons.

As Celtic TV replayed the goal viewers became aware that it was Commons who had turned quickly, claimed the loose ball and snapped it into the top corner- off the toes of Brown.

Shortly afterwards Commons sent in a perfectly flighted cross for Leigh Griffiths to head Celtic in front with the former Hibs striker going on to claim a hat-trick as Celtic moved eight points clear of Aberdeen with six matches left for both teams.
