Ronny Deila was quick to highlight the differences between the penalty Celtic were awarded against Dundee United with the one that they were denied against Inverness Caley Thistle.

The Celtic boss was quick to highlight the difference between getting the chance to go 2-0 up and play against 10 men for 45 minutes to going 3-0 up against 11 men with 8 minutes left to play.

Willie Collum’s decision not to red card John Rankin for denying a goal scoring opportunity looked questionable with the referee deciding that the crucial contact had taken place on the 18 yard line and pointed to the penalty spot.

“What happened last Sunday was not normal,” the Celtic boss said. “This is a totally different thing. I rarely talk about referees’ decisions but last Sunday was a thing that really affected the game.

“We had full control over the game, we were 1-0 up and we had assistants on the goal-line also so I don’t think you can say that this was the same as what happened today.

“It was a totally different thing. And the cup of course, is one game, so it is different. If it was wrong today it would not have affected the game. If it was only 1-0 I could understand it could be an issue. I don’t mind if we win 2-0 or 3-0, we deserved to win the game.”

Leigh Griffiths scored from the penalty spot to put Celtic 3-0 up leaving Deila’s side needing five more points from four matches to clinch the title for the fourth year running.
