Alan Stubbs Alan Stubbs steered Hibs to a 3-0 win away to Falkirk to secure second place for the Edinburgh side in the end of season play-off’s.

Last Saturday’s home win over Alloa left Hibs in control of their own destiny while Sevco’s bottle crashed again at Tynecastle as they threw away a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 with champions Hearts.

Lee McCulloch was brought on with nine minutes remaining by Stuart McCall with the visitors leading 2-0 only to inspire a late fightback with Genero Zeefiuk scoring twice with McCulloch in the centre of defence.

The results mean that Hibs will face the winners of the Queen of the South v Sevco matches with the winners of that two legged tie facing the team that finishes second bottom of the Premiership in a bid to earn a place in the top tier.

Martin Boyle got Hibs off to the perfect start with a goal in the fifth minute going a long way to settling the nerves of the travelling support.

Hibs enjoyed the better of the first half and increased their lead six minutes from the break when Jason Cummings netted from close range following a Scott Allan cross.

Avoiding a two legged play off against Queen of the South or Sevco will be a big relief for Stubbs with added breathing space to prepare for the victors of that match.

Elsewhere in the Championship Mark Burchill’s Livingston completed the great escape with a 1-0 win over Queen of the South to finish the season in eighth place after looking doomed a month ago.

That result coupled with Alloa’s 3-0 win over Cowdenbeath lifted Livi above the Fifers who are relegated with Alloa having to go into the play-off’s.
