Robbie_ThomsonFormer Celts Robbie Thomson and Ryan Conroy have joined Queen of the South.

Thomson spent the season just ended with Cowdenbeath while Conroy was at Raith Rovers where he scored a memorable free-kick in the Scottish Cup win over Sevco at Ibrox.

Queen’s finished last season in fourth place in the Championship with manager James Fowler keen to push again for promotion with the former Celt’s on board.

The Queen’s boss said: “I’m excited to have these guys on board. Ryan is a very creative player and has the ability to score goals. His performances against us this season shows his quality. Having been with the club before, he was keen to join us and the fact that he can play a number of positions is good for us as it gives us strength in the squad.

“Robbie is a young keeper who fits the profile we’re looking for. He had other offers available but he chose to come to Queens which is pleasing. It’ll be good competition between Robbie and Jim Atkinson next season”.

Thomson was part of Celtic’s double winning youth side’s of 2010/11 and 2011/12 but never managed to break through into the first team squad.

Conroy was part of the 2005/06 double winning youth squad that also included Darren O’Dea, Simon Ferry, Scott Fox, Scott Cuthbert and Jim O’Brien. While with Celtic he had spells on loan at Queen’s and Partick Thistle.

Former Celt’s Lewis Kidd and Mark Millar finished the season at Palmerston but have still to commit themselves for next season.
