Celtic fans Hampden 2Celtic overcame an incredible mistake by Kevin Clancy to beat Inverness Caley Thistle 5-0 to complete their Premiership campaign in style.

Leading 2-0 thanks to a joint goal by Nir Bitton and Stefan Scepovic followed by a strike from Stefan Johansen the hoops were poised to increase their lead when Virgil van Dijk headed towards an open goal in the 32nd minute.

Danny Williams decided to use his arm to block the Dutchman’s header but amazingly Clancy, who appeared to have a clear view of the incident decided to award Celtic a corner.

The Celtic players and fans screamed for the most obvious handball since Josh Meekings stopped Leigh Griffiths’ header at Hampden.

It took Celtic just five minutes to open the scoring but even with the benefit of Sky Sports slow-mo cameras it was impossible to tell if it was Bitton or Scepovic that rolled the ball into the net from a Jason Denayer header across goal.

There was no doubting the identity of the second goal-scorer as Johansen drilled home his 13th goal of the season from an Emilio Izaguirre cut-back in the 18th minute.

Celtic enjoyed total dominance but there was no further goals until the 70th minute when Scepovic shot home from ten yards out after Johansen and James Forrest had opened up the Inverness defence.

The final 20 minutes were played out in a party atmosphere as the fans saluted their team, their manager and anticipated another six titles.

With 13 minutes left to play Scepovic was replaced by top scorer Leigh Griffiths having given Ronny Deila food for thought as he makes his summer transfer plans.

Not to be denied Griffiths scored his twentieth goal of the season shortly after coming on with a trademark low drive across substitute keeper Cameron Mackay into the net. In the final minute substitute Kris Commons slammed in Celtic’s fifth goal of the afternoon.
