MCLEAN STEVEN bbcSteven McLean has been overlooked from refereeing Sunday’s top Premiership fixtures.

With possible European places up for grabs in the fixtures at Aberdeen and Dundee, McLean will find himself in charge of Saturday’s dead rubber between Motherwell and Partick Thistle.

A month ago McLean was appointed for the Scottish Cup semi-final between Celtic and Inverness Caley Thistle but in five rounds of post split fixtures, he hasn’t been appointed to take charge of any of the 15 fixtures involving the top six clubs in the country.

Willie Collum will be in charge of Aberdeen v St Johnstone, Bobby Madden will referee Dundee v Dundee United while Kevin Clancy will be in the middle when Celtic host Inverness Caley Thistle.

McLean is one of Scotland’s Category 1 rated officials, in March he refereed two matches in the Elite Qualifying stage of the U-19 European Championships, earlier in the season he took charge of three Europa League matches.

If the SFA are reluctant to give him high profile matches in Scotland it’s unlikely that he will continue to progress on the UEFA circuit with his Hampden performance likely to hold his career back.

Since missing Josh Meekings handling a netbound Leigh Griffiths header McLean has been in charge of Kilmarnock v Hamilton Accies, Ross County against St Mirren with his season ending at Fir Park on Saturday.

Collum will take charge of the Scottish Cup Final between Inverness Caley Thistle and Falkirk with Andrew Dallas as an additional assistant behind the goal, Dallas was also in that role at the Celtic v Inverness Caley Thistle semi-final.

Calum Murray will referee the Sevco v Hibs play-off semi-final tomorrow at Ibrox with John Beaton taking the return leg at Easter Road on Saturday.
