Paul McMullanLoan bhoy Paul McMullan has helped Stenhousemuir into the League One play-off final.

After a 1-1 draw at Ochilview the match went to extra-time but goals from Jamie McCormack and Craig Sutherland booked a place against Queens Park for a place in next season’s third tier.

Scott Booth signed McMullan on loan in January but was replaced as manager by Brown Ferguson the following month as the Stenny battled to beat the drop.

Second bottom place, above Stirling Albion but below Ayr Utd, meant a play-off placeĀ

McMullan, generally played as the lone striker in the Celtic development side, has scored three times in 15 appearance picking up priceless experience in the gritty end of the game.

After a 1-1 draw in the first leg at New Bayview Stenny seemed on course to cruise through when Kiaran Miller scored in the second minute but three minutes from the end Jonathan Page netted to take the match into extra time.

Goals from McCormack and Sutherland saw the home side through with a visit to Hampden coming on Wednesday before the return leg at Ochielview on Saturday.

After his play-off commitments are completed McMullan will be available for Celtic;s SFA Youth Cup Final against Sevco at Hampden on May 21.

This season the SPFL have introduced development loans which allows players to go out on loan but still be available for Development League fixtures which are almost always played in midweek.

Celtic’s development side complete their league programme with a visit to St Mirren on Monday followed by hosting Kilmarnock on Thursday.
