Aidan NesbittCeltic’s u-20 side finished their season in style with a thumping 5-2 win over Sevco to lift the SFA Youth Cup.

The young hoops outclassed their lower division opponents in every area to take the trophy back to Celtic Park.

The Murray Park kids included Canadian World Cup hopeful Fraser Aird and Newcastle starlet Kevin Mbamba in their side but neither of them made any impression on the game.

It was the third time this year that Celtic have mastered their city rivals at the National Stadium, in February Kris Commons and Leigh Griffiths scored in the 2-0 League Cup win, last month Mark Hill and Josh Kerr scored in the Glasgow Cup win with a hat-trick from Aidan Nesbitt supplemted by strikes from Luke Donnelly and Sam Wardrop doing the damage tonight.

Celtic took the lead in the 21th minute after a free-kick from Tierney was deflected for a corner. The same player took the corner dropping his cross right in the six yard box with Wardrop poking the ball home from close range.

The lead was short lived with a mix up in defence seeing Calum Waters head into his own net as Jordan Hart came out to collect a harmless looking cross.

Undeterred by that set-back the hoops were back in front in the 27th minute. Nesbitt turned the Murray Park defence inside out before smashing a low 12 yard effort past Liam Kelly into the net.

Six minutes later the hoops went further in front when Donnelly brilliantly tamed a cross from Nesbitt before stabbing a low shot past Kelly from 15 yards out.

Celtic continued to dominate the second half but it took until the 72nd minute to find the net with Nesbitt gleefully drilling a shot high past Kelly from Donnelly’s pass.

Two minutes later Nesbitt completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot after Kieran Tierney was sent tumbling at the edge of the penalty box.

Success at this level is no guarantee of progress but Ronny Deila will have noticed that in Nesbitt and Tierney he has two prospects tailor made for style of football.

In the 90th minute Dylan Dykes pulled a goal back but it was of little consolation as the young hoops celebrated a well deserved trophy success.

CELTIC: Hart; Wardrop (Kelleher 79), O’Connell (McCart 90), Findlay, Waters; Lindsay, McManus; Nesbitt, Donnelly, Tierney (Miller 84); McMullan
