Karaoke McCoistDave King has attempted to embarrass Ally McCoist into walking away from his Ibrox contract.

With further news of emergency loans being pumped in to meet losses of £1m a month, at their highest at this time of the year, McCoist is currently picking up over £60,000 a month on gardening leave.

King is currently sweet talking Walter Smith and John Greig into more active roles at the club but has cynically put the spotlight on the fans favourite who coined the phrase ‘we don’t do walking away’.

When the old club went into liquidation McCoist stuck loyally to his contract, refusing to join Steven Naismith, Allan McGregor, Steven Whittaker and Kyle Lafferty who took the opportunity to cash in and move on despite recently signed contracts.

Without the benefit of any pre-season trips and only five and a half players the man known as Super set about the task of rebuilding the fallen giants after endorsing the new regime led by Charles Green.

Despite humiliating defeats to Stirling Albion, Peterhead, Queen of the South, and Forfar Athletic McCoist never buckled leading the club to back to back titles.

The pressure finally got to the former striker, who appeared to age visually week by week, earlier this season as Hearts and Hibs handed out lessons before defeats from Alloa Athletic and Queen of the South forced him into the garden after standing alone fighting against the boardroom.

Halfway through his gardening leave, and currently enjoying a well deserved holiday, McCoist finds himself back in the spotlight after turning down a cut price deal to quit the club.

We have met with Ally a couple of times and have tried to resolve the situation and have not been able to do so but are still trying,” King told the daily newspapers yesterday.

The fact is Ally is entitled to his money. That was the deal so I don’t think there is any situation to be resolved.

The question is can one ask him to accommodate the club? He doesn’t have an obligation, doesn’t owe anything to the club.

It’s a question of whether the club can convince him that, under the new regime, he should give some satisfaction, so to speak.

Ally is quite within his rights to be doing what he is doing. There is no situation to be resolved. We are asking him to do us a favour.

The club owes Ally as much as he owes them in terms of the satisfaction he has given fans over the years. The fact is he has a contract and the club must respect contracts. There is no dispute with Ally McCoist.

Maybe there is an opportunity for us to go and say, ‘Ally we are here, we are staying, would you assist us in some way going forward?’ but we must understand he would be doing us a favour. He owes us no obligation.”

After having his contract thrown into the spotlight the chances of McCoist walking away from the final six months of his lucrative deal are now even less likely.
