Michael DuffyStevie Frail wants to see Michael Duffy help himself to more goals.

The 20-year-old signed from Derry City at the end of the January transfer window and scored three goals in the closing Development League fixtures against St Mirren and Kilmarnock.

Duffy has featured as the sole striker and also across the three attacking midfield positions with Frail looking for an improved goals return from the Irishman.

“Technically Michael is very good, his first touch almost always kills the ball then he is away with his second touch,” the Celtic development coach said.

“We’re still trying to nail down his best position, he’s all right footed, he’s decent on his left but predominantly right footed and likes playing on the left. We need to continue to work on his finishing.

“He scored a couple of goals in the last two matches but he knows he can do better and that’s something that we are working on.

“In terms of where he is in the development side of things we are treating him as if he is still young, he’s not had the same development as the rest of the team. We don’t look at him as an overage player, he has recently come into the squad.

“There are a few attacking options that he can look at. He was on trial for us in a bounce game at Newcastle and was first class.

“We know that there is a player there, it took him a wee while to come into the full time set up. Signing for Celtic was a big thing for him, especially back home in Ireland, he has handled it well and settled in.

“Michael is a quiet lad, he has mixed well with the players and I’m looking forward to working again with him in pre-season and next year.”

Duffy is ineligible for Thursday’s u-20 SFA Youth Cup Final at Hampden but Frail is hopeful of having Jamie Lindsay and Joe Thomson back from injury, Paul McMullan is available after his loan stint at Stenhousemuir while Regan Hendry, Mark Hill and Calvin Miller are back from Scotland u-17 duty.
